(MORE ON THE WAY!!!)
INTRODUCTION: As some of you already know, The Apocalypse has been in Beta
for quite some time now. I was hoping to end up with a first production
release that would be completely bug free. Well, I think we've come very
close to a bug-free product, but you know software! Anyhow, as I developed
Beta-release after Beta-release, the game has become more and more complex,
but I think players will find it challenging and fun. The included docs
(that can be read by players on-line) give a bit of a "feel" for the
environment of the game while at the same time, teaching them how to play.
So far, the reaction of the user world has been encouraging and as I type
this, Apocalypse ][ is already underway!
REGISTRATION: This game is completely uncrippled. The only reference to
registration is made in the opening screen. I am asking you to donate $10
to me, Dave Perkovich, in order to receive a personalized password.dat
file. My address for registration fees is:

SET-UP: This game is written in QuickBasic 4.5 using DoorSource to enable
the door-game utility functions. Keeping in mind all the complaints I have
read about the need for the BRUN files, I have compiled this door with the
necessary BRUN files to allow SysOps easier installation. You DO NOT need
a copy of BRUN45 to run this door.
STEP 1 - Create a directory and place all the files in this archive
into that directory.
STEP 2 - Run INSTALL.BAT to create the necessary data files. Re-run
this program every time you reset the game. Also, you must delete a file
called apoc.scr whenever you reset. This file is created when the game is
first run.
STEP 3 - Insert the following line in whatever your BBS uses to run
a door. Some BBS's need an independent batch file, check your software's
documentation for help.
APOC60.EXE APOC.CFG <ID FILE> {any other command line option}
Valid "ID File's" include:
RBBS - Forces Door Source into RBBS/QBBS mode
{DORINFOx.DEF files}
WILDCAT - Forces Door Source into Wildcat 2.0 mode
{CALLINFO.BBS files}
DOORSYS - Forces Door Source into 31-Line DOOR.SYS mode
{DOOR.SYS files}
PCB121 - Forces Door Source into PCBoard 11.8/12.x mode
with COM 1 active
PCB122 - Forces Door Source into PCBoard 11.8/12.x mode
with COM 2 active
PCB14 - (DEFAULT) Forces Door Source into PCBoard 14.x
mode
Valid "other command line options" include:
LOCKED:xxxxx - Forces Dooor Source to lock the modem at the
speed given.
LOCAL - Forces Door Source to run in local mode. This
is really meant for testing purposes, but it
still reads the configuration file, but doesn't
read the bbs interface file.
NETWORK - Forces file sharing to be active incase you
are using something other than SHARE to manage
file locking.
IRQ=n - Lets you change the IRQ used for the com port
specified in the bbs interface file.
(See below for more information)
ADDR=&Hnnnn - Lets you change the address used for the com
port specified in the bbs interface file.
(See below for more information)
PS2 - Forces the PS/2 IRQs and addresses if a PS/2
isn't detected (Normally it is, but you can't
always tell!)
***************************************************************************
* EXAMPLE - If you were running a Telegard system, the command line would *
* read as follows: *
* *
* APOC60.EXE APOC.CFG DOORSYS *
* *
* *
* *
* EXAMPLE - If you were running PCBoard v.14, with a LOCKED COM port at *
* 19,200 and IRQ of 5: *
* *
* APOC60.EXE APOC.CFG PCB14 LOCKED:19200 IRQ=5 *
* *
* *
* *
* EXAMPLE - If you just wanted to run the game in local mode: *
* *
* APOC60.EXE APOC.CFG LOCAL *
***************************************************************************
STEP 4 - Insert the proper information in your nightly/daily program
to run the file MAINT.EXE. This program will remove dead players and
update each player's turns, troops, and so forth. If your users complain
they have no food left each day when they start, the MAINT.EXE isn't
running properly!
STEP 5 - ****MOST CRITICAL****
Inform 'ol Dave here how the door is performing! I need to hear
the good stuff as much as the bad so I can keep moving in a
direction to satisfy the needs of all the users out there...
Thanks for using this game and I look forward to getting your input!
